My English degree at Washington & Lee University was not earned easily. My teachers in high school prepared me well through regular, mandatory expository writing. My W&L freshman composition professor failed all of us on our first papers although he later allowed us to rewrite them fully. I had passionate, authoritative teachers in the English program who pushed me to fulfill my potential in the literature of Southern America, modern Ireland, 18th century men of letters, plus classic Children's Literature.
